A new phase space method for recovering index of refraction from travel times
نویسندگان
چکیده
We develop a new phase space method for reconstructing the index of refraction of a medium from travel time measurements. The method is based on the so-called Stefanov–Uhlmann identity which links two Riemannian metrics with their travel time information. We design a numerical algorithm to solve the resulting inverse problem. The new algorithm is a hybrid approach that combines both Lagrangian and Eulerian formulations. In particular the Lagrangian formulation in phase space can take into account multiple arrival times naturally, while the Eulerian formulation for the index of refraction allows us to compute the solution in physical space. Numerical examples including isotropic metrics and the Marmousi synthetic model are shown to validate the new method. (Some figures in this article are in colour only in the electronic version)

Joint inversion of ReMi dispersion curves and refraction travel times using particle swarm optimization algorithm
Shear-wave velocity ( ) is an important parameter used for site characterization in geotechnical engineering. However, dispersion curve inversion is challenging for most inversion methods due to its high non-linearity and mix-determined trait. In order to overcome these problems, in this study, a joint inversion strategy is proposed based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ...
متن کاملMoving Vehicle Tracking Using Disjoint View Multicameras
Multicamera vehicle tracking is a necessary part of any video-based intelligent transportation system for extracting different traffic parameters such as link travel times and origin/destination counts. In many applications, it is needed to locate traffic cameras disjoint from each other to cover a wide area. This paper presents a method for tracking moving vehicles in such camera networks. The...
متن کاملApplications of Inverse Methods to the Analysis of Refraction and Wide-angle Seismic Data
The refraction inverse problem was initially investigated by Herglotz (1907), Bateman (1910), and Wiechert and Geiger (1910) who applied Abel transforms for the inversion of seismic travel-times in radially varying media. For smoothly varying media in the absence of low velocity zones, this formulation provides an inverse solution which includes ray bending. In the presence of low velocity zone...

We present two new techniques for the inversion of first-arrival times to estimate velocity structure. These travel-time inversion techniques are unique in that they do not require the calculation of ray paths. First-arrival times are calculated using a finite-difference scheme that iteratively solves the eikonal equations for the position of the wavefront. The first inversion technique is a di...

Accurate measurement of refractive error in uncooperative patients and young children, requires cycloplegia. The aim of the present study was to determine whethere cyclopentolate by itself or in combination with 4 times instillation of atropine can be used as a substitute for 10 times instillation of atropine. From 1994 to 1996, 39 patients aged 2-12 years were included in this study. Cyclopleg...
